In 1924 Middlesex County Council contributed £1146 towards the acquisition by Finchley Council of 15 acres of land at Long Lane for a public space. Pointalls and District allotment Society had the use of 10.5 acres of this land and in 1940 it was made a permanent Allotment society.
This Allotment was managed by London Borough of Barnet until 2016 when a management company comprising allotment holders was set up. The company was liquidated in 2022 by court order.
The land reverted to London Borough of Barnet control. The Council put the management of the allotment up for tender.
After its success in tendering for the new lease a steering group is in the process of resurrecting the community of plot holders.
Our site is comprised of over 150 plots ranging in size from 250 – 500 square metres.
There are two entrances, one in Squires Lane, the other in Nursery Avenue and we have limited parking facility. There is a communal area that is available for social gatherings and celebrations for plotholders and we have a composting toilet.
Our trading shed will be fully stocked with peat free composts, organic fertilizers, bird friendly slug pellets and sundry items useful for vegetable growing eg. canes, ties, labels, string etc. and open on Sundays
We hope to expand our trading shed activity to incorporate a refreshment area.
